Sofwave vs Ultherapy in Seoul: devices, evidence and prices

Compare Sofwave and Ultherapy PRIME: ultrasound, imaging, evidence limits and dated Seoul menu prices with VAT. Match the treatment plan before the price.

Reviewed · Glow Lab editorial research

The quick answer

Sofwave and Ultherapy both use ultrasound, but deliver it differently. Sofwave uses parallel beams with surface cooling; Ultherapy uses microfocused ultrasound with real-time tissue imaging. Sofwave is not a laser or a newer version of Ultherapy. The useful Seoul comparison is the exact area, device, treatment quantity and complete quote. The same shot count does not mean the same treatment, and the evidence below does not establish a universal facial-treatment winner.

Sofwave and Ultherapy target tissue differently

Sofwave describes parallel ultrasound beams, dermal heating and integrated cooling. Ultherapy PRIME's instructions describe selectable transducers and real-time imaging. A depth diagram explains device design; it cannot diagnose the cause of your laxity or predict which result you will prefer.

Ask the doctor to identify the concern first: laxity, volume loss, texture or a combination. Then ask why the proposed device, treatment area and protocol address that concern. A newer applicator name, deeper setting or higher shot count does not establish a better outcome on its own.

What the human evidence can actually compare

Sofwave's FDA K211483 submission describes 92 enrolled participants and 80 treated at five US sites, supporting its eyebrow and submental/neck lifting indications. That study is not a randomized facial comparison against Ultherapy. The document's use of Ulthera as a regulatory predicate is not evidence of equal patient outcomes.

There is a direct randomized comparison to read carefully: Loyal and colleagues' 2026 journal abstract reports 14 women completing a split-body upper-arm study, with a single treatment and assessments at 30 and 90 days. It reports improvement with both technologies and no statistically significant pain difference. This was an arm study, not a facial or neck trial, and it does not establish long-term equivalence.

We reviewed the regulatory submission and the published abstract; the latter's full methods, funding and complete adverse-event tables were not independently reviewed. We therefore do not use it to rank facial results, rare risks or treatment durability. This is editorial research, with no independent medical reviewer claimed.

Pain and recovery: ask about your actual protocol

Cooling does not mean painless. Sofwave's safety information lists possible pain, tenderness, pigment changes, persistent redness or swelling, ulceration/erosion and bruising. Ultherapy's instructions describe clinical reactions and post-market reports, including neurological effects. Different reporting systems do not provide a fair comparison of complication rates.

Discuss prior fillers, implants, skin conditions, medicines and earlier procedures with the treating clinician. Get the pain-control plan, aftercare and a contact for medical review in writing. Neither a clinic's 'no downtime' wording nor an upper-arm study can guarantee a symptom-free flight or a photo-ready date after facial treatment.

Seoul price examples: Orta's published menu

Checked 18 October 2026 on Orta's public booking menu. Its accompanying price guidance states that 10% VAT is added. These are advertised event quantities, not prescriptions or confirmed final appointment totals; promotion availability, coverage and other charges need confirmation.

The two options below have different devices and quantities. Do not interpret their price difference as a like-for-like saving or an effectiveness comparison.

  • Sofwave 200 shots: ₩1,700,000 before VAT → ₩1,870,000 after adding the stated 10% VAT, before any unconfirmed extras.
  • Ulthera Prime 300 shots: ₩1,090,000 event price before VAT → ₩1,199,000 after adding the stated 10% VAT, before any unconfirmed extras.

Seoul price examples: VOS's published menu

Checked 18 October 2026 on VOS's English price list, labelled updated 16 October. VOS says 10% VAT is added where applicable. Because that wording is conditional, the tax-inclusive numbers below are illustrations if 10% applies, not confirmed amounts owed. Ask the clinic to confirm the tax treatment and complete appointment total.

The same device quantities can be compared with Orta's menu observations, but the treatment areas, settings, comfort options and follow-up are not verified as matched. Two selected clinics do not establish a Seoul average or a best-value ranking.

  • Sofwave 200 shots: listed ₩2,400,000; ₩2,640,000 if 10% VAT applies, before any unconfirmed extras.
  • Ultherapy PRIME 300 shots: listed 20% event price ₩1,440,000 (regular ₩1,800,000); ₩1,584,000 if 10% VAT applies, before any unconfirmed extras.

Why 200 Sofwave shots cannot be converted into 300 Ultherapy lines

A delivery count leaves out the applicator or transducer, energy, coverage, passes and distribution across areas. Do not divide the menu prices by shot count and treat the result as a standardized dose comparison. Ask each clinic to write down the complete plan for the same intended area and number of visits.

Request separate totals for each device before considering a combination. A package discount does not establish that both are needed, and a bundle price cannot reveal either device's standalone price. Include consultation, tax, pain management, aftercare and any recommended repeat visits in the comparison.

Device identity and the limits of this guide

This comparison concerns Sofwave ultrasound and Ultherapy/PRIME, not Sofwave's separate electrical-muscle-stimulation products. Confirm the actual system, applicator and clinician before booking. US FDA documents cited here describe US regulatory scope; they do not independently verify the current Korean registration of the device at a clinic.

We have not independently verified those Korean registration identifiers or the assigned practitioners' licences, contacted these clinics for quotes, or received treatment. No clinic photos are used as evidence of isolated results. Keep the source date with each price, and ask for the Korean device registration and the applicable patient instructions when confirming a booking.

Questions to take to the clinic

  1. Is this Sofwave ultrasound or the original Ultherapy/PRIME system, and which applicator or transducers will be used?
  2. What concern and exact areas does the doctor propose treating?
  3. How many pulses/lines, passes and visits are included, and why?
  4. Which evidence supports the expected result for this area, rather than a different body part?
  5. What is the written total including tax, consultation, pain management, aftercare and repeats?
  6. Who treats me, and how can I get medical review after leaving Korea?

Common questions

Is Sofwave better than Ultherapy?

The reviewed evidence does not establish a universal facial-treatment winner. Compare a clinician's diagnosis and exact plan. The small direct trial discussed here treated upper arms, so it cannot settle a facial or neck comparison.

Is Sofwave a laser or HIFU treatment?

Sofwave uses parallel-beam ultrasound, not laser light. Do not treat every ultrasound offer as the same HIFU machine or assume Sofwave is a newer Ultherapy model. Confirm the brand, system and applicator.

How much does Sofwave cost in Seoul?

This page records two selected clinics' 200-shot menu offers, checked 18 October 2026. They are not a market average or guaranteed full-face totals. Read the source-specific VAT calculations above and get a current written quote for your proposed areas.

Is Sofwave painless or guaranteed not to affect facial volume?

Neither guarantee is made here. Cooling and a stated treatment depth do not establish zero risk. Discuss discomfort, volume concerns, relevant warnings and your anatomy with the treating clinician.

Can I combine Sofwave and Ultherapy on a Seoul trip?

A clinician may propose a combination after assessment. Ask what each adds, why both are needed, what the full course costs and how follow-up works. A package listing alone is not evidence that the combination suits you.

Sources and scope

View all sources and research notes (12)

This is sourced editorial research, not a hands-on treatment review or an independent clinical trial. Device specifications and manufacturer claims are distinguished from human study findings. Study size, protocol and comparison groups limit what can be concluded. The practical trade-offs labelled as our editorial take are interpretations, not proven superiority. Medical suitability and travel clearance require the treating clinician's assessment.
