Botox vs Dysport: units, results and quote differences

Understand Botox and Dysport brand differences, why units cannot be compared directly, and what to confirm in a Korean clinic quote.

The quick answer

Botox Cosmetic and Dysport are different botulinum toxin type A products used to reduce targeted muscle activity. Neither is automatically better. Their units are product-specific, so a lower price per unit does not establish a lower treatment cost.

Why a cheaper unit can mislead

Both prescribing labels say their potency units cannot be compared with or converted into those of other botulinum toxin products. Do not treat a clinic's advertised unit prices as equivalent or use an online conversion ratio to choose your own dose.

Our editorial take: request each clinician's complete plan for the same area, including the named product and total fee. A ‘three-area’ package needs the areas spelled out, as well as review and additional-treatment terms.

Does Dysport work faster or spread more?

Onset and the area of effect depend on the product and injection plan. This page does not establish a universal faster-onset winner or that one product will always spread more in your treatment. Ask when the treating clinician expects to assess your result.

A clinic's claim that one brand is better for a larger area is a proposed clinical judgment. Ask how the placement and dose address your goal and the risk of affecting nearby muscles.

Forehead, jaw and skin Botox are different comparisons

Do not carry a forehead comparison across to masseter treatment or superficial ‘skin Botox.’ A shared product category does not establish the same dose, technique or approval for each use. Ask the doctor to confirm the proposed use and local labeling.

No verified Botox-versus-Dysport Seoul price pair is supplied here. A generic jaw Botox benchmark cannot tell you the price of either named brand at your chosen branch.

Safety and your previous treatment history

Tell the doctor which toxin you last received, when and where it was injected, any side effects, and your medicines and medical conditions. Brand choice alone does not determine suitability.

Product labels warn about effects spreading beyond the injection site. Seek urgent medical help for difficulty breathing, swallowing or speaking. Local effects can include eyelid droop; discuss the risks for your intended area with the injector.

What to confirm at a Korean clinic

The product examples and prescribing information cited here are US references. They do not establish Korean approval, local availability or an approved use in Korea. Ask the treating doctor to confirm the exact locally supplied product and whether the proposed treatment is within its Korean labeling.

Get the product name, quantity, area, VAT, consultation and follow-up terms in writing. A menu category such as ‘imported filler’ or ‘premium Botox’ is not a product specification. Keep a copy of your treatment record and the clinic's aftercare contact before leaving Seoul.

Questions to take to the clinic

  1. Is the quoted product Botox Cosmetic or Dysport, rather than a generic menu label?
  2. What area and product-specific dose does your plan cover?
  3. What is the total with VAT and review, and are additional injections charged separately?
  4. When should my result be assessed, and who handles aftercare after I leave Korea?

Common questions

Is Dysport cheaper than Botox?

It may have a lower advertised price per unit, but the units are not interchangeable. Compare the complete clinician-prescribed treatment totals for the same area.

How many Dysport units equal one Botox unit?

The prescribing information says the units cannot be compared or converted between products. Dose selection belongs to the treating clinician; this guide provides no conversion formula.

Which gives a more natural result?

Brand alone cannot predict that. Discuss the movement you want to retain, your anatomy and the injection plan with the doctor.

Sources and research notes (3)

This is sourced editorial research, not a hands-on treatment review or an independent clinical trial. Device specifications and manufacturer claims are distinguished from human study findings. Study size, protocol and comparison groups limit what can be concluded. The practical trade-offs labelled as our editorial take are interpretations, not proven superiority. Medical suitability and travel clearance require the treating clinician's assessment.
